MDF Italia Tense Intarsia table designed by Michele and Piergiorgio Cazzaniga features a unique, hand-crafted intarsia finish on the table top, created by mixing marble powder with a binder and applying it to the surface of the table. The intarsia follows the principles of the famous "point line surface" theory by Kandinsky, and is finished with a special treatment of varnish and natural wax.
In 2019, new dimensions and four new heights (H35, 45, 90, and 110 cm) were introduced, creating a true system of tables that can be used for a variety of purposes. The tables come in five different types based on the five heights, including low tables, coffee tables, benches, dining tables, and working tables, consoles, and high bar/office tables.
The table's structure features a significant technological innovation that allows the top to reach large dimensions while remaining in tension. The top is a 35 mm thick composite panel with an internal aluminum frame and a polystyrene filling. The legs are made of steel with a 35x35 mm cross-section and an internal structural tie-rod.
The reconstructed marble finish is created by mixing marble powder with a binder and applying it to the surface of the table, resulting in a more uniform appearance while retaining the natural characteristics of the material, such as its porosity. The table is available with a top in reconstructed black ebony marble with an intarsia in Carrara white marble or in bronze, and the top, edges, and legs are covered with a 3 mm thick layer of the material.
