Vitra Organic Chair

The Vitra Organic Chair is a comfortable reading chair designed by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen in 1940. The shell is in laminate. The padding is in polyurethane foam with fabric covering. The legs are in black ash or natural oak. The guides are made of plastic for carpeting and additional guides with felt inserts for hard floors. Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen created the organic chair as part of their participation in "Organic Design in Home Furnishing", a competition organized by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The small reading chair offers exceptional comfort, thanks to the comfortably padded seat shell, with a biomorphic shape, and is also available in a version with a higher backrest.

His sculptural design was a cutting-edge project. For reasons related to production techniques, the armchair has never been put into production. Only later was it possible to mass-produce and market organically shaped bodies, such as those of the famous plastic armchair by Charles and Ray Eames or the Tulip chair by Saarinen. The organic chair is also available in the version with an organic high back with an elongated back and wider and longer armrests. The Organic Conference version is suitable as a table chair. The organic conference chair is a more vertical seat than the organic chair and the high-back organic models, designed for reading. This extremely comfortable chair is therefore ideal for dining rooms or for conference and meeting rooms.
